Energy and Sustainability Statements

We can work alongside your design team to provide expert guidance on energy and sustainability issues to ensure the most suitable and cost effective solutions to support planning applications.

Most Local Planning Authorities require an Energy and Sustainability Statement or Renewable Energy Statement to be submitted as part of a planning application. This is often combined with a requirement to provide a reduction in carbon emissions and energy use of the building through onsite generation of energy using Low or Zero Carbon (LZC) and Renewable energy technologies.

The Local Planning Authority may also require the development to achieve a particular Code for Sustainable Homes level or a set percentage reduction in CO2 emissions which can be anything between 5% and 25%.

The Energy Statement will set out the predicted energy and CO2 emissions of the development and address potential improvements for reducing energy consumption and emissions.

The Energy Statement will includes the following information:

  • Energy efficiency of the building
  • Baseline annual predicted energy and carbon demand of the development
  • The contribution of each proposed renewable energy technology
  • Cost information of technically feasible LZC renewable technologies
  • Feasibility of district or community heating
  • Summary of the benefits of various energy technologies
  • The total estimated reduction in the development’s carbon & energy emissions

We provide Sustainability Statements to highlight the positive aspects of a scheme and demonstrate the commitment of the developer to ensuring the proposals will be sustainable.

The Sustainability Statement will includes the following information:

  • Energy efficiency of the building
  • Water conservation
  • Flood risk and drainage strategy
  • Community impacts
  • Health and Wellbeing including day-lighting analysis and thermal comfort
  • Material usage – responsible sourcing and environmental impact
  • Pollution issues – low NOx, low GWP, reducing need for mechanical cooling
  • Ecological aspects to enhance and protect the proposed development’s ecological value
  • Best practice management of the site regarding waste

Our Sustainability report will be tailored to address the specific local planning policies, Supplementary Planning Guidance and Documentation.
